WILDLIFE CONSERVATION LAB
Rani Davis
PhD
Rani is a PhD candidate in the Reside Wildlife Conservation Lab at The University of Queensland. Her current PhD research is investigating the role that insectivorous bats play in controlling agricultural pests in Australia. Her PhD aims to establish the pest control service that bats provide in Australian macadamia orchards, and identify feasible management strategies for enhancing this service to benefit both farmers and bat conservation efforts.
In 2023, Rani completed a Bachelor of Science (Zoology and Ecology) with Honours at the University of Queensland. Her Honours thesis examined how artificial lighting impacts insectivorous bats in Brisbane, Australia. Her research explored how far these impacts extend into the environment and quantified the distance at which light no longer influenced the flight activity of two Australian bat species. This research provides valuable insights for reducing the ecological impacts of artificial lighting as it could allow more informed light placement around important habitats.
My favourite animal is the Snow Leopard.
My controversial opinion is that pineapple ABSOLUTELY goes on pizza.
